The National Festival of Making 2019

The National Festival of Making 2019 brought together a vibrant celebration of UK making, from the factory floor to the kitchen table.

With a programme of work that combined Art, Manufacturing, Making and Communities – commissioning international and national artists to create world-class new works and utterly joyful hands-on making experiences, there was plenty for visitors to enjoy. Once again, we were delighted to be curating the Makers’ Market in King George’s Hall with over 50 artists, makers, upcyclers and designers showing and selling their work. Makers shared their skills through demonstrations throughout the weekend, and without doubt, the sustainable, environment-friendly craft proved a real hit with visitors.

The festival will return 6th & 7th June 2020 with an even more ambitious programme of making and digital technologies, hands-on maker workshops, innovative art installations and a full festival programme of activity. Once again King George’s Hall will join the town-wide takeover of Blackburn centre with a fantastic opportunity for savvy shoppers and lovers of handmade. You will be able to meet the makers, watch bite-sized demos by exhibiting makers and buy direct supporting local small businesses.
